چکیده

Neurological soft signs (NSS) refer to subtle neurological abnormalities comprising deficits in sensory integration, motor coordination, or sequencing of complex motor acts. It is generally accepted that NSS are more prevalent in schizophrenia patients, including first -episode cases, than in healthy subjects. Moreover, NSS have been consistently demonstrated in neuroleptic naïve firstepisode patients; thus, they are thought to be an intrinsic feature of schizophrenia. This notion is underlined by the increased NSS scores in highrisk subjects, such as relatives of schizophrenic patients, and in the unaffected cotwins of monozygotic twin pairs discordant for schizophrenia. However, recent studies clearly demonstrate that NSS are not a static feature of the disease, but rather vary in the clinical course of the disorder. This variation with psychopathological symptoms was first established in the shortterm course with the remission of acute symptoms under neuroleptic treatment, but also applied to the longterm course over a followup period of up to 5 years. In conclusion, NSS correspond to both genetic liability and the activity of the disease process; future studies in this field may not only enhance our understanding of schizophrenia, but may also establish NSS as one of the clinical predictors of outcome. A Study of Soft Neurological Signs and Its Correlates in Drug-Naive Patients with First Episode Psychosis

BACKGROUND Soft neurological signs are minor, non localizing, objective abnormalities, thought to reflect damage in cortical and sub-cortical connections or connections within different cortical regions. Regional structural grey matter anomalies have already been observed and correlated with the presence of cognitive deficits and presence of soft neurological signs in schizophrenic patients. ...

بررسی نرم نشانه های عصبی (Neurological Soft Signs) در روانپریشی ها

Schizophrenia is one of the most important and disabling mental disorders in the world. Males and females are equally affected. Diagnosis is a very difficult problem in this disorder. Neurological soft signs in first-episode schizophrenia: a follow-up study.

OBJECTIVE Neurological soft signs are frequently found in schizophrenia. They are indicators of both genetic liability and psychopathological symptoms. To further differentiate "trait" and "state" relations the authors compared the 1-year course of neurological soft signs in schizophrenia patients and comparison subjects. METHOD Thirty-nine patients with first-episode schizophrenia spectrum d...

Exploratory factor structure of the neurological evaluation scale in black africans with first episode schizophrenia

While the organization of neurological soft signs (NSS) in schizophrenia into Sensory integration, Motor coordination, and Motor sequencing, is functionally 'meaningful', it has not been confirmed by empirical methods such as factor analysis. Data on the exploratory factor analysis of the Neurological Evaluation scale in Black Africans with first episode schizophrenia are presented in this repo...
